Re: Memorial Day
Posted on behalf of Bob Dolezal:
I spent my last weekend of vacation in Belo Horizonte, Brazil after a 3 week vacation that concluded with my daughter-in-law's brother's wedding. I did remember that back home it was Memorial Day Weekend and thought about what it means to me to have known too many who have given all for our freedom. I was reminded significantly how wonderful the United States of America is by being away this year, and I arrived here today very glad to be home. I also found a message from a Navy buddy with a moving remembrance give by Ronald Reagan too many years ago. Because it is now nearly 30 years old some of our most significant and recent brushes with destiny are not mentioned, but the message is the same.
I haven't posted anything on the website yet and couldn't finger through it, could you please post for me.
I participated in two services, served 25+ years in military uniforms, and have known some amazing people. Today less than one half of one percent of the U.S. population participates in military service because it is now an all voluntary force... a lot of people depend on so very few.
I do not celebrate Memorial Day, I pay homage to those who paid the ultimate price, and remember all those who did, and still do, their part to keep us free.
